Tink Plant

Albion, ME

Tinkplant is my passion project for being the change I want to see in the world. Finding practical efficient methods to live on the planet without exacerbating climate change and habitat destruction is what drives me. I enjoy the chemistry that makes botanical dyes work and find it is a pleasant way to bring myself an assurance that color production is happening appropriately. Which is to say I have nothing against synthetic dyes but their manufacturing paths worry me, as they seem to come out of a black box somewhere overseas. My partner is setting up a sheep farm but I am focused on plant-based fiber alternatives.

As I am in the very beginning of this journey I don’t have anything to show for this venture. I’ve a couple hundred feet of dye plants in the ground this year. My flax bed is a few days behind schedule but it is going in soon. I got plans, poles, a spot, and everything but the plastic for a greenhouse that should be going in later this summer.

I am a botanical dye grower, dyer, flax… enthusiast (grower at the very least and hopefully processor), and machine knitte
