Redhaven Farm

Washington, ME

Redhaven Farm is nestled in the coastal hills of Washington, Maine. We are a small family farm, home for a few Gotland upgrade sheep. Twice a year at shearing time we offer their fleeces to fiber artists, knitters and artists who appreciate the wonderful qualities of the curly, lustrous wool. Our sheep include crosses with Leicester Longwool, Merino, and Wensleydale.
Gotland sheep originate from the small island of Gotland, off the coast of Sweden. One of the Northern short-tailed breeds, their bloodlines date back to the Viking era. Since 2003, there has been an upbreeding program in the United States to establish this lovely breed of sheep in North America. Gotland sheep have many unique characteristics which make them an excellent choice for both large commercial flocks as well as small family farms.
• easy to lamb, have a high lambing rate, produce abundant milk and have strong mothering instincts.
• intelligent, Gotland sheep are also inquisitive, friendly and affectionate, making them an outstanding sheep for the small flock shepherd
• a hardy breed and adaptable to a variety of management systems.
• friendly, calm and non-flighty making them the perfect choice for children and families.
• a breed of sheep with lustrous shades of silver curls & silky fibers making them a favorite among hand-spinners and fiber artists.

We love to share our friendly beautiful sheep Come for a visit, or just to talk sheep!
